mindfulness yoga

Mindfulness Yoga is based on the Four Establishments of Mindfulness:

The Body

The Feelings

The Mind

Objects of Mind

Using conscious breathing to awaken and focus our attention in order to look deeply into the true nature of things. In doing so we begin to see how the breath and mind are intimately related. Our mind affects our breathing and our breathing affects our mind. By learning to observe the breath we are observing the mind. Also as our breath is a function of our body, we begin to see that by observing the breath we are also observing the body.

The first Establishment of Mindfulness uses the Full Awareness of breathing to become aware of the body, exploring sensations and limitations within the body in order for us to learn ways to best care for it.

The second Establishment of Mindfulness uses Full Awareness of Breathing to deeply explore feelings or sensations. There are three types of feeling or sensation. They can be pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral. These feelings or sensations are what arise out of the contact our senses make with the world. These are extremely important because they condition how we act and how we perceive our relationship to our experience of the world.

The Third Establishment of Mindfulness looks deeply into the activity of the mind. This includes all psychological phenomena such as feelings, emotions, perceptions, thoughts, reasoning, discriminating or imagining and noticing the constant arising, dwelling and passing

The Fourth Establishment of Mindfulness is to look deeply into the true nature of all things. To see clearly how everything is constantly changing – nothing ever stays the same.
