mindfulness based stress reduction - mbsr

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre, Centre for Mindfulness (CFM), within a new branch of medicine known as behavioural medicine, which believes that mental and emotional factors, the way we think and behave, can have a significant effect, for better or worse on our physical health and our capacity to recover from illness.

Jon Kabat-Zinn 8-week MBSR programme is an intensive self directed training programme in conscious living. It was developed for people with a wide range of physical and mental health difficulties, for stress reduction and improvement of general wellbeing and performance.

MBSR has been extensively studied since the 1970’s and it has been based on over ten years of clinical experience.

Extensive research has shown that MBSR is effective in relation to treating stress, anxiety, chronic fatigue and pain management and for generally improving physical and mental health and wellbeing and improving performance.
