about Mair
Mair is an experienced Pilates instructor, having been teaching Pilates for the last 7 years. She qualified initially with the Pilates Institute in London and has since undertaken additional training in Pilates for Pregnancy and Postural Assessment and Correction. She has attained the Level 3 CYQ Pilates qualification with the Modern Pilates Team which is currently the highest and soon to be the only recognised Pilates qualification in the industry.
In her 7 years of teaching, she has taught hundreds of people of all ages and abilities and taught over 6,500 classes to date.
Mair first encountered Pilates 10 years ago when she had problems with her own back. On returning to work after maternity leave, she developed postural problems caused by sitting in front of a computer and nursing and looking after a baby. After many months of pain and discomfort, she discovered Pilates. Such was the difference it made to her that she decided to undertake training as a Pilates coach. She left her desk job in 2002 and has made Pilates her profession.
She is now helping over 200 people every week to improve their posture, strengthen their backs and make their day to day movements easier and pain free. Pilates is something she feels passionate about because it has helped her so much and, with correct instruction and execution, she sees it making a real difference to the people in her classes.

About Pilates
Pilates is a way of life – it’s not a quick fix. It teaches you how your body should move correctly and makes you think about the way you move, sit and stand day to day, not just when you’re in class. By applying Pilates principles to your everyday life, you will start to appreciate the benefits of good posture and a more flexible, stronger, better balanced body.
Pilates is suitable for most people. The beauty of Pilates is that you are always working at your own pace and at a level that is most appropriate for you. You never feel that you have to be keeping up with a certain pace or holding a particular position for any length of time. If you are restricted in any way, ie you have problems with your knees, your wrists, your back, neck or shoulders, Mair finds a way to work around some of the postures so that you will always be targeting the right muscles without any potential strain to those areas in which you are restricted.
The Classes
Pilates is a very precise form of exercise and it is important that you carry out the movements just as instructed. Emphasis is always more on quality than quantity with all movements being carried out in a slow, controlled manner. During the session Mair will be walking around the class and checking you as you move - this is essential in order for your exercises to be effective. It’s very difficult for you yourself to tell if you are in perfect alignment when you are exercising – so this checking is very important. There is no substitute for working with a qualified Pilates coach.

classes
Mair runs her classes in courses of 6 weeks and cost is £30 for a course of 6. Please see a list of her classes below. Booking for the courses is essential. Numbers are limited to 12 per class, 10 in West Kirby. Her sessions last for approx 1 hour. In that time she will be working through a combination of strength, mobility and flexibility movements. The movements are planned to work your body in a balanced way.
Before Mair can start working with you, she will need you to complete a health screening questionnaire. This helps her to find out a little bit about you before you begin. She will usually send this to you in the post so that you have the form ready with you when you come into class. On your first session, you will need to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the class so that she can discuss your health screening form with you and to talk you through what you need to know before you start the session. At this first session, you will also receive your welcome pack which will contain more information about her classes.
For any queries and to book your place, contact Mair on: 07730-344-287. She looks forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
