Glue ear is a condition which causes fluid to build up in the middle ear. It is one of the most common causes of impaired hearing in young children. It is also known as secretory otitis media, otitis media with effusion, or serous otitis.
Glue ear is a relatively common condition. More than 7 in 10 children have an episode of glue ear by the time they are four. Although people of any age can develop glue ear, it is most common in children under the age of eight.
