Abuse is the treatment of a person or persons by another or others which causes harm. Self abuse is caused by a person to themself. Abuse can be one or a combination of physical, emotional or psychological, sexual or verbal. Common types of abuse include child abuse, substance abuse (drug and alcohol addiction), spousal abuse or domestic violence, human rights abuse and animal abuse. Apart from the emotional and physical damage caused, abuse can lead to feelings of guilt and low self-esteem. These can appear at any time, but sometimes many years later, sparked by an event, memory or environment.
