Boxercise is an exercise class based on the training concepts which boxers use to keep fit. Classes can take a variety of formats but typically may involve shadow-boxing, skipping, hitting pads, kicking punchbags, press-ups, shuttle-runs and sit-ups. Most boxercise classes are aimed at men and women of all ages and fitness levels. As no class involves the physical hitting of an opponent, it is a fun, challenging and a safe workout.
The Boxercise® Concept
Boxercise began in the UK in 1992 and is based upon training principles that have existed for over two hundred years. We train fitness instructors to teach the public Boxercise Classes and Personal Training, running over 300 training courses a year from 18 different venues in Europe. In the UK alone, over 1.2 million people take part in Boxercise classes (source: Mintel, 2006). The Boxercise course has developed age old training principles and adapted them to form a fun, addictive, safe, stress busting workout suitable for all ages and levels of ability.
Boxercise® - Beneficial for Health
Boxercise - the best stress buster around - is one of the most effective forms of cross-training available today. It combines use of both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems with the systematic recruitment of both fast and slow twitch muscle fibres in a manner that not only ensures a diverse workout, but also enhances sports specific senses, including hand-eye co-ordination, balance and timing. Boxercise classes are always fun, energetic and addictive.
A boxercise class consists of a boxing circuit for all stages of fitness, suitable for both women and men. The class is aimed at improving fitness, toning, core strength and having fun whilst working out. People with previous injuries are always taken into consideration and given alternative exercises to strengthen up weakened muscles and body parts.
These classes are popular with both sexes; showing girls are just as fit, strong and handy with boxing gloves as their male counter parts!
